Multiple fully-funded PhD positions are available at the Computer Science (CS) Department of University of Iowa (UIowa),
for Fall 2025 admission, under the supervision of Weiran Wang.
Weran Wang is joining UIowa as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in August 2024. He obtained his PhD from University of California Merced in 2013, spent 2014-2017 as a Postdoc Researcher at Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago, and then worked as Research Scientist at Amazon, Salesforce, and Google. He has wide interests in machine learning, and his planned research areas in the near term include multi-modal/multi-view learning with deep generative models, speech and sequence processing with foundation models, and applications (e.g., AI for science, health and social good). Prospective students will be supported by TA/RA, and have access to computational resources including both the public computer cluster at UIowa, and private nodes equipped with high-end GPUs.

Ideal candidates shall have a solid background in CS or related fields, with strong analytical and/or implementation skills, and most importantly be self-motivated. Prospective students are also welcomed to perform research in directions other than the ones listed above, if a mutual interest can be established.
